North High School Road Car Accident Highlights Importance of Official Investigations

Whether it’s a high-profile news story involving a serious Indiana car accident, or one of the several, lesser-known daily collisions, it’s important to remember that liability should never be determined until an official investigation is complete.
Depending on the factors of a collision, an official car accident investigation may involve multiple sources and take days, weeks, months, or even years to complete.
As such, it’s important for Indiana accident victims to ensure the details of their collision are properly and thoroughly investigated before accepting the insurance company’s liability determination.
The following is an example of an Indianapolis car accident on North High School Road that highlights the importance of official case investigations.
Boulton Law Group does not represent any of the parties involved in this collision and is merely using the initial police report details for illustrative purposes.
North High School Road Car Accident
According to Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD), the 3-car accident occurred on North High School Road at the intersection of Ohio Street, as illustrated in the accident report diagram:

It should be noted that this particular section of North High School Road is free flowing (without a stop light) for drivers travelling north or south. At the same time, traffic from eastbound Ohio Street attempting to turn left or right onto North High School Road is controlled by a stop sign.
The 3 vehicles involved in this collision included:
- Vehicle 1 – Toyota Corolla
- Vehicle 2 – Range Rover Evoque
- Vehicle 3 – Mercedes-Benz G-Class
Prior to the collision, the driver of the Corolla was traveling northbound on North High School Road; the driver of the Evoque was headed eastbound on Ohio Street; and the driver of the G-Class was traveling southbound on North High School Road.
Based on initial police report details, as the driver of the Corolla approached the Ohio Street intersection, the driver of the Evoque prepared to make a left-hand turn onto North High School Road. The driver of the Evoque then pulled out from the stop sign into the Corolla’s northbound lane of travel.
In an attempt to avoid the Evoque, the driver of the Corolla swerved. Unfortunately, this maneuver proved to be unsuccessful. The Evoque made contact with the Corolla’s rear driver-side, causing the latter to lose control and enter into oncoming traffic.
The initial police report also indicates the driver of the southbound G-Class was unable to avoid the damaged Corolla, thus resulting in a second, head-on collision between their two vehicles.
Details indicate the head-on collision between the Corolla and G-Class left both drivers with head injuries that were noted to be evaluated and treated on-scene by responding paramedics.
Additional notes from the accident report:
- No citations were issued to any of the drivers.
- Collision occurred during evening hours (5:50 p.m.)
- Weather condition was listed as ‘Rain,’ which caused wet surface conditions.
- All drivers were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the collision.
- Airbags deployed for both vehicles involved int he head-on collision.
- Property damage was estimated to be between $25,000 – $50,000 and required the Corolla and G-Class to be towed from the scene.
And while initial accident reports contain helpful details, they only serve as a starting point. Car accident reports are sometimes amended due to further investigation, new evidence, revised statements, or other potential liability factors. This means it’s possible that the accident details listed above may have since been updated with new or corrected information.
Who is Liable for the Accident’s Total Damages?
Establishing liability for an Indianapolis car accident can prove to be more difficult than one might imagine. And in the event that multiple vehicles are involved, insurance companies may attempt to point the finger at multiple defendants.
As for this accident example, an official determination of liability cannot be made until a complete investigation has been conducted.
At the time of this blog, the initial police report served as the only available account of what may have actually occurred. Further analysis might uncover a number of factors that may completely or partially absolve any of the parties from fault.
With this in mind, and for example’s sake, if the driver of the Evoque was ultimately determined to be at fault for ‘failure to yield,’ it is possible that their insurance company may be liable for the total damages of the collision(s).
Again, it’s important for Hoosiers to understand that every car accident, no matter the size or type, must be fully investigated based on its own unique circumstances before officially determining liability.
In addition to police agencies, insurance companies, accident reconstructionisms, and potential witness statements, Boulton Law Group encourages victims to request a free case evaluation from an experienced Indianapolis personal injury attorney.
