Free Case ReviewLocated forty-five minutes south of Indianapolis, off I-69 in the county seat of Morgan County, is the ever-growing city of Martinsville, Indiana.
Since its inception in 1822, Martinsville has undergone a number of transformations. Once known as the “Goldfish Capital of the World,” the city now boasts an expanding, bustling downtown and courthouse square.
In response to Martinsville’s growing number of local businesses, (and the reconfiguration of I-69), the city’s population now boasts record numbers. As of 2023, the United States Census recorded 14,980 residents. The previous high was 12,494 in 2009.
As is the case in many of Indiana’s growing cities, Martinsville’s city streets, highways, and backroads have witnessed increased automobile traffic of every type, including cars, semi-trucks, and motorcycles.
Additionally, Martinsville traffic is sometimes dictated by the number of vehicles making use of the aforementioned I-69.
Whether it’s local residents, commuter traffic, Bloomington caravans, or large numbers of commercial trucks, the popular interstate is a route for growing numbers of in and out-of-state travelers all throughout the year.
Unfortunately, Martinsville’s increased traffic volume will continue to bring with it more instances of auto accidents, such as the following case example handled by Boulton Law Group.
Martinsville Car Accident Case
The following car accident occurred in Martinsville on State Road 67 North, near the Centerton Road intersection:
(Since the time of this accident, ongoing construction has changed the configuration of this intersection.)
According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, the driver of Vehicle 1 was placed at fault for ‘Unsafe Lane Movement‘.
The accident report narrative details the specifics that caused the collision:
Driver 1 initially stated they were unsure what happened. The only thing Driver 1 could recall was trying to make a left turn onto State Road 67, and then they were struck. Driver 1 was unsure where they were coming from or where they were going, but believed they may have made a wrong turn.
Boulton Law Group’s client advised the officer that they were travelling north in the lefthand lane on State Road 67. When our client approached the Centerton Road intersection, Vehicle 1 swerved into their path.
To better understand the events leading up the accident, the accident report also relied on a number of witness statements.
According to witnesses, Vehicle 1 had initially turned south from Centerton Road into the Northbound lanes (the wrong way) of State Road 67, then, realizing their error, quickly cut across all lanes of traffic, likely in an attempt to move to the crossover to reach the southbound lanes.
Unfortunately, due to the quick timing of events, our client was unable to avoid Vehicle 1, thus causing a significant collision.
The investigating officer estimated the total damage to be between $10,000 – $25,000, and both vehicles were towed from the accident scene.
Both drivers sustained injuries, however, because our client was determined to have no fault for the accident, they had a legal right under Indiana state law to seek compensation for their damages, which include:
- Medical bills related to the accident, present and future.
- Any lost wages for time missed at work.
- Pain and suffering.
In this case, attorney Matt Boulton was able to secure complete and full compensation from the responsible insurance company on behalf of his client.
