Avon Car Accident at Intersection Occurs After Driver Mistakenly Runs Light

How the accident happened

The Ford F-150 is being driven by the Defendant (Driver 1), while the Toyota Camry is being driven by our client (Driver 2).

When the responding officer arrived at the scene, he was able to speak to both drivers.

According to Driver 1, he was southbound on Ronald Reagan Parkway approaching the traffic-light controlled intersection at U.S. 36. He told the officer that he became confused due to the altered lane set-up arranged by the orange traffic cones.

Additionally, Driver 1 stated that he was waiting to make a left-hand turn to go east on U.S. 36, but he didn’t realize this particular traffic light contained red and green turn arrow lights in addition to the solid red, yellow, and green lights.

Because Driver 1 saw a solid green light, he assumed it was ok to make his turn. Unfortunately, the turn arrow was solid red at this time. As a result, Driver 1 made his left-hand turn thinking he had the right-of-way and turned in front of Driver 2.

Driver 2 advised the officer that he was northbound on Roald Reagan Parkway approaching the traffic-controlled light at U.S. 36. He further stated that he saw a solid green on the traffic light and attempted to continue north through the intersection.

As Driver 2 entered the intersection, he was involved in an unavoidable collision with Driver 1’s Ford F-150.

Property Damage

As a result of the impact, both vehicles suffered significant damage and were required to be towed away from the accident scene. The responding officer estimated the amount of property damage sustained by both vehicles to be between $10,000 and $25,000.

The Avon accident report lists “Disregard Signal” as the primary cause of the collision and places liability on Driver 1.

Resulting Injuries

While neither driver suffered traumatic or life-threatening injuries, the force of the collision did result in soft-tissue injuries to our client.
